SQL Database Developer II

JOB SUMMARY:
The SQL Database Developer is responsible for database design, creation, coding, implementation, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting for software applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL workflows.
  • Familiarity with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) or other reporting tools.
  • Establishes database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, such as conceptual design, logical database, capacity planning, external data interface specification, data loading plan, data maintenance plan and security policy.
  • Evaluates, designs, codes, implements, optimizes, and modifies databases and database applications with respect to JCL, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, organization, protection and security, documentation, and statistical methods.
  • Participates in quality assurance and develops test application code in client server environment.
  • Provides expertise in devising, negotiating and defending the tables and fields provided in the database.
  • Adapts business requirements, developed by business systems analysts/modeling/development staff, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application.
  • Models databases and develops tables, stored procedures, views, triggers, and other database objects.
  • Maintains database dictionaries, monitors overall database standards and procedures, and integrates systems through database design.
  • Works closely with other developers to integrate databases with other applications.
  • Provides leadership and/or guidance to other technical professionals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's (B.A. or B.S.) or Master's degree (M.A. or M.S.) in Computer Science, Information Systems or the equivalent combination of education, training, and/or work experience.
ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of database utilities on multiple hardware/software platforms using multiple database engines.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end systems development life cycles (i.e., waterfall, iterative and other modern approaches to software development).
  • Proficiency in creating and supporting database technical environments.
  • Excellent customer service skills that build high levels of customer satisfaction for internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization (e.g., executive, management, individual contributors).
  • Shares willingly relevant technical and/or industry knowledge and expertise to other resources.
  • Excellent decision-making, problem-solving, team, and time management skills.
  • Is resourceful and proactive in gathering information and sharing ideas.
  • Ability to estimate work effort for project sub-plans or small projects and ensure the project is successfully completed.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • This position will be performed in the colleague's home. Work-from-home requirements include the colleague's ability to set up computer equipment within their home office. Occasional in-person team meetings may be required depending on the position.
  • This job is primarily sedentary and may involve repetitive motions; the colleague must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time, operate a computer and other office equipment, assess information and files stored electronically, and converse/exchange accurate information with others, simultaneously.
  • The colleague must be able to discern text displayed on a monitor, input data into specific fields using a keyboard, and adjust focus to distances of up to three feet.
  • The colleague must have the ability to learn new tasks, follow established processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, complete multiple tasks simultaneously, communicate professionally with colleagues and customers, and complete tasks in situations that have a speed or productivity requirement.
  • The colleague must be able to manage moderate to significant mental stress as a result of, but not limited to, a dynamic and heavy workload.

SQL Database Developer II

Intermediate role. Moderate skills with high level of proficiency. Has complete understanding of the SQL Developer department. Handles calls, which are predominantly routine, but associate must be able to deviate from standard scripts and procedures as needed May coach more junior technical staff. Works under general supervision with latitude for independent judgment. May consult with senior peers on more complex issues. Typically requires a minimum of two (2) or more years of working in the Database Developer department with at least one (1) year working as a Database Developer I.
