Overview
We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to provide operational support for a mission-critical production system supporting a large public-sector program. This is a part-time, temporary engagement focused on system stability, performance, and continuity of operations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on production DBA who thrives in operational environments, responds quickly to issues, and understands the importance of data integrity, availability, and security.
Position Details
- Schedule: Up to 30 hours per week
- Duration: Approximately 6 months
- Work Arrangement: Hybrid (minimum 2 days per week onsite in Baltimore, MD)
- Start Date: January 2026 (anticipated)
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, maintain, and optimize production relational databases
- Perform routine and emergency backup, restore, and disaster recovery activities
- Diagnose and resolve database performance issues, outages, and degradation
- Optimize SQL queries and database structures for performance and reliability
- Support ongoing operations and maintenance (O&M) activities
- Document configurations, procedures, and recovery processes
- Collaborate with application, infrastructure, and security teams as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, MIS, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience administering production relational databases
- Demonstrated experience with:
- Database backup and recovery
- Disaster recovery planning and execution
- Performance tuning and optimization
- SQL query development and optimization
- Experience supporting production systems in an operational (O&M) environment
- Strong troubleshooting and incident-response skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SQL Server in enterprise environments
- Experience supporting government or public-sector systems
- Familiarity with .NET-based applications
- Prior work in regulated or compliance-driven environments
Additional Requirements
- Ability to work onsite in Baltimore, MD at least two days per week
- Must pass a background check
- Must be eligible to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
