Responsibilities:
Design parts and assemblies for vehicle programs through the entire product life cycle, from concept to production to service/warranty/end-of-life.
Mechanical design, analysis and packaging of various closures components (i.e. Hood, Fender, Side Door, Decklid and Liftgate, Trim components, Spoilers, Claddings, Sheetmetal Reinforcements and Brackets, etc.) to meet system and vehicle requirements while optimizing for design efficiency, cost, weight, manufacturability, and serviceability.
Ensure vehicles conform to all motor vehicle safety standards governing Closures system operation
Work closely with the full design engineering team and other stakeholders and attribute owners to create world class designs:
Collaboration assistance with cross functional teams such as CAE by interpreting and using analysis results to guide and evolve the design.
Collaboration assistance with manufacturing to ensure efficient process sequence and build quality.
Cross functionally works with Manufacturing, Design and Product Development as well as with Stamping and Suppliers on items such as tool design and secondary component changes.
Perform analysis of section properties, materials, and manufacturing processes through benchmarking activities to understand competitiveness of designs.
Apply GD&T, create drawings, packaging layouts and design for manufacturability/assembly (DFM, DFA).
Qualifications:
8+ years of expertise in transportation industry product development; within Closures systems and sub-systems at an OEM or supplier preferred.
Experience designing and working with manufacturers to create parts and assemblies using high-volume manufacturing processes typically found in world class automotive environment.
Experience working with Class A surface data.
Proven design, packaging, and 3D modeling skills using CATIA V5/V6 or similar software.
The ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks quickly in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
Detail oriented personality with a determined problem-solving attitude using an Engineering first principles approach.
Experience using the FEA tools within CATIA environment is desired.
Exhibiting excellence in previous roles that demonstrate a creative approach to resolving mechanical design/performance issues.
Education:
4-year technical degree in a relevant discipline from ABET accredited institution or equivalent desired.
Job Type: Contract
Pay: $62.00 - $66.00 per hour
