Sr. Electrical Design Engineer (HV Substations)

We at Emarat Aloula is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer with a strong background in High Voltage (HV) Substation projects across the UAE or GCC region. The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end design and engineering of 132kV/220kV substations, ensuring compliance with local utility standards (e.g. TRANSCO, DEWA, SEWA) and international codes. This role demands a leader with a deep technical understanding, coordination ability, and a strong commitment to quality and safety in design.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the design and engineering of HV substations (132kV / 220kV), including layout, SLDs, protection schemes, and interface engineering.
• Prepare and review electrical design calculations, load flow studies, short circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Develop and finalize detailed design drawings, BOQs, and technical specifications in coordination with CAD and drafting teams.
• Ensure all designs meet local utility regulations and standards (e.g., TRANSCO, DEWA, SEWA, ADWEA).
• Review and approve vendor/subcontractor drawings and design submissions.
• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and protection teams to ensure proper integration across disciplines.
• Provide technical support during procurement, construction, and testing/commissioning phases.
• Liaise with client representatives, consultants, and authorities for design reviews and approvals.
• Mentor junior engineers and review their work for accuracy and compliance.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (Master’s Degree is a plus)
• Minimum 15 years of experience in HV substation design, with at least 8 years in the UAE or GCC
• Proven experience in 132/220kV substation projects, preferably under TRANSCO, DEWA, SEWA, or equivalent authorities
• Familiar with international design codes and software such as ETAP, DIALux, AutoCAD, Revit, etc.
• Strong knowledge of protection systems, SCADA integration, and substation automation
