A Senior Mechanic diagnoses, repairs, and maintains complex mechanical/electrical equipment, often leading junior staff, managing preventive maintenance, ensuring safety, and handling documentation for various vehicles or machinery (automotive, industrial, marine) using advanced diagnostic tools and hands-on expertise, focusing on troubleshooting, overhauls, and system efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Diagnosis & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic systems in various equipment (trucks, heavy machinery, plant equipment, vehicles).
- Preventive Maintenance: Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules, inspect equipment, and perform tune-ups, lubrication, and component replacement.
- Leadership & Training: Mentor and oversee junior mechanics, assign tasks, inspect work, and train others on practical skills.
- Operations: Manage daily work orders, prioritize maintenance, handle parts ordering, and ensure quality control before equipment release.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records, create reports, and use computer systems for data entry and retrieval.
- Safety & Quality: Ensure all work adheres to safety protocols, company standards, and high-quality repair benchmarks.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of gasoline/diesel engines, transmissions, electrical systems, welding, and diagnostic software.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills for complex issues.
- Leadership: Ability to lead, communicate, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Certifications: ASE certifications often required, depending on the industry (automotive, etc.).
- Physical: Ability to use hoists, forklifts, and perform physically demanding tasks.
