ANNUAL ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $61,000.00 - 75,000.00 (Salaries are paid biweekly)

Job Summary

Work related to day-to-day operations and functions of the Streets Department including: maintain and operate equipment; minor and major construction of streets and alleys; snow and ice removal, and crushing recycling operations. Serves as the primary on-site lead in coordination with the Crew Chief, proactively managing workflow, troubleshooting operational hurdles, and maintaining peak production standards during the Crew Chief's absence.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Operates and maintains equipment which may include front-end loader, bulldozer, skid steer, dump truck, backhoe, tractors, street sweeper, paving equipment, mowing and other vegetation management equipment, and other heavy equipment as needed.
  • Additional specialized heavy equipment operation may include: paver, rotomill, grader, excavator, tractor trailer / tanker, and crusher.
  • Patch broken or eroded pavement; may remove debris from roadway.
  • Interprets blueprints and instruments.
  • Contributes to job site safety.
  • Performs snow removal and operates snow removal equipment.
  • Performs snow crew chief duties during snow operations.
  • Inputs daily work data into a computer.
  • Trains and oversees other operators or hourly employees and contribute to performance evaluations.
  • Develops work schedules to complete street maintenance operations.
  • Act as crew chief when crew chief is absent.
  • Ensures crews work cooperatively in a professional setting.
  • Provides customer service by answering questions and resolving complaints and problems.
  • Makes recommendations of equipment service and replacement needs.
  • Performs general building maintenance.
  • Shift work and emergency responses activities may be required.

  • May require basic welding skills.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM
PREFERRED

High School Diploma or GED and or functionally related licenses or certificates
High school diploma or GED

Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years related experience.

Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training

  • Class A Commercial Driver License Preferred. (May require Tanker endorsement for some assignments) Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations require that the individual(s) selected for this position must successfully pass a controlled substance test, as well as a DOT physical examination. Current City employees transferring from a non-safety sensitive position to a safety sensitive position will be required to successfully pass these tests and the physical examination. May require Workzone Certification within a reasonable time frame from time of hire. May require IMSA Level II Certification within a reasonable time frame from hire. May require commercial pesticide application license within a reasonable time frame from time of hire.
