About the Role:

As a Sr. Water/Wastewater Engineer you'll play a critical role in planning and growing out the city's water infrastructure. Your work will ensure Fort Worth remains sustainable, efficient, and future-ready by being our strategic navigator to help us predict problems before they happen and guide the utility in making smart decisions.

Projects our team has contributed to in the past include:

  • Water Master Plan
  • Wastewater Master Plan
  • Impact Fee Study

What We're Looking For:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field
  • Three (3) years as a licensed Professional Engineer (two (2) in a relevant field)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with water/sewer models (InfoWater, WaterGEMS, or EPANET)
  • Six (6) years in design, development or operation of water/wastewater systems

The Sr. Water/Wastewater Engineer job responsibilities include:

  • Shape the future of our community's water systems by evaluating developer studies and ensuring our water and sewer capacity keeps pace with growth.
  • Leverage cutting-edge modeling tools (InfoWater, WaterGEMS, EPANET) to plan for expansion and optimize system performance.
  • Drive big-picture planning through wholesale capacity analysis and long-term infrastructure strategies.
  • Solve real-world challenges by troubleshooting complex issues using SCADA data and flow meter insights.
  • Work as a connector across departments, collaborating to deliver smart, sustainable, and resilient water solutions.
  • Make an impact on major projects by supporting Capital Delivery, Master Planning, and Impact Fee studies.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor by providing expert technical guidance to both internal teams and external partners.

Working Conditions

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing and balancing.

Physical Demands

Light Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly having to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for the Sedentary Work category and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated Light Work.
