Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and client-focused Senior Tax Manager to join our team, responsible for delivering high-quality tax compliance and advisory services to a diverse client base. This role involves managing complex tax engagements, reviewing returns, and providing strategic guidance to help clients navigate their tax positions effectively.
As a Senior Tax Manager, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor throughout the tax process. You will oversee the day-to-day delivery of tax services, mentor and develop team members, and ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently.
This position offers the opportunity to work closely with clients and internal teams in a collaborative, fast-paced environment, while contributing to process improvements and supporting the firm’s continued growth. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to both client service and team leadership.
Responsibilities
- High level of client communication and service maintaining a 2 business day response time
- Manage work (Tax Pipelines) of direct reports, identifying overdue tasks and stale jobs
- Conduct final technical reviews of tax returns and documents for individuals, partnerships, s-corporations, trusts, and corporations, including signing tax returns
- Review staff member work papers and provide feedback to ensure completeness and accuracy
- Mentor and develop members of your team, improving technical skills and work quality
- Provide advisory services to clients and maintain strong client relationships by managing their expectations, being responsive to their communications/emails
- Research complex tax issues and provide recommendations for resolution
- Stay up to date on changes in tax laws and procedures
- Lead the planning, organization, and coordination of client engagements to meet all deadlines
- Identify areas to improve company processes and remove barriers to efficiency, enhancing client and employee experience
- Recommend other firm services to the benefit of the client. Ex: bookkeeping services, tax advisory etc.
- Monitor Accounts Receivable and manage resources to maximize collections
- Execute department revenue, cost, and margin goals
- Hold phone calls or Zoom meetings with clients to discuss their tax situation or returns
- Scope and communicate a new engagement to the prospect and respective departments and see through onboarding/creation of new jobs
Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's or Master's in accounting from an accredited college or university
- 6+ years of experience preparing 1040s, 1065s, and 1120-S tax returns
- 5+ years of experience reviewing 1040s, 1065s, and 1120-S tax returns
- Experience reviewing returns for large partnerships and their K-1s
- Experience reviewing Schedule E, Form 8825, Schedule L and M
- Experience calculating improvement basis for real estate acquisitions
- Experience reviewing multiple state tax returns
- Experience with Form 3115 and 481(a) adjustments
- Experience navigating IRC Sec. 469
- Experience managing a team to complete projects annually
- Experience with client resolution and tax planning
- CPA or EA certification preferred
