Staff Accountant Position Announcement

The Washington Hop Commission (WHC) is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to join our dynamic team. About the Organization

The WHC is an agricultural commodity commission (state agency) based in Yakima, Washington representing the hop industry. WHC also provides contracted administrative services for two non-profit trade organizations, Hop Growers of America (HGA, representing all hop growers in the U.S.) and Hop Growers of Washington (HGW, representing Washington hop growers). Job Description

The Staff Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records of the Washington Hop Commission, Hop Growers of Washington, Hop Growers of America, and the U.S. Hop Industry Plant Protection Committee.

The Staff Accountant reports to the Executive Director and works in close collaboration with all other staff members. Specific responsibilities include payroll, accounts payable and receivable, budgeting, account reconciliations, deposit preparation, and financial reporting.

Responsibilities include:

- Maintain and update the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and assist in creating monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.

- Ensure transactions comply with GAAP, company policies, and federal, state, grant program and local tax regulations.

- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other general ledger accounts. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

- Facilitate fiscal month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing processes.

- Gather documentation and provide financial records for internal and external audits.

- Prepare bank deposits.

- Prepare, verify and process payroll semi-monthly

- Ensure payroll compliance with federal, state, and local wage, hour, and tax laws; prepare, file, and reconcile tax reports (941s, 990s, W-2s, 1099s)

- Track staff monthly leave reporting and time and effort for grant programs.

- Maintain and update employee records, including new hires, terminations, salary updates, and benefits.

- Respond to employee inquiries regarding pay, deductions, and tax questions.

- Oversee the preparation of annual operating, specific event and grant budgets; analyze, review, and monitor revenue and expenditures.

- Assist with international and domestic travel reimbursements for staff and delegates.

- Maintain accounts payable, ensure timely payment of invoices via check, ACH, EFT and/or wire payments, confirming validity of the debt, gathering appropriate signatures and backup documentation

- Maintain accounts receivable, generate, review, and send invoices to customers and grant reimbursement claims to awarding agencies in a timely manner and monitor outstanding balances.

Perform additional tasks as may be required by the Executive Director

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in accounting, business administration, finance or other field directly related to professional accounting, plus two years of professional accounting experience or demonstrate a combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Working Conditions/Hours

- This is a salaried position with office hours of 8 am to 5pm; work hours and time commitments will vary outside of office hours during program events and travel, as needed

- Sitting and standing for long periods of time due to desk work and events
