The International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) is a DC-based non-profit organization whose mission is to support civil society activism in promoting women’s rights, peace and human security in countries affected by conflict, transition and closed political space. The Staff Accountant is a part-time role that provides financial and administrative support to ICAN’s Finance Director and broader team. The position plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, and supporting financial reporting and audits.
Primary responsibilities are as follows:
· Process accounts payable, including team expense reports and invoices from consultants and vendors.
· Review all supporting documentation to ensure compliance with ICAN policies and follow up with staff on any discrepancies.
· Process accounts receivable and maintain offline Excel trackers for payables and receivables.
· Process online payments and conduct monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
· Maintain accurate bookkeeping records in QuickBooks Premier Plus Desktop (cloud hosted).
· Record and review expense reports, including travel and sub-recipient expenses, ensuring proper allocation and categorization.
· Prepare and record journal entries and reclassifications in QuickBooks.
· Reconcile balance sheet accounts and maintain schedules for prepaids, accruals, and depreciation.
· Assist with the monthly financial close process, including preparing general ledger reports and updating budget vs. actual reports for projects.
· Support preparation of 1099 and W-2 reports as needed.
· Assist the Finance Director with organizational and project audits.
· Organize and maintain digital financial documentation in ICAN’s SharePoint system.
· Maintain and update the vendor database.
· Additional accounting or administrative responsibilities may be added over time, such as payroll processing or benefits administration.
· Provide occasional administrative support to the Operations Manager or program staff as needed
Required Qualifications
· Must have permit to work in the US.
· Must have ability to work remotely (an adequate internet connection is necessary).
· Previous bookkeeping experience, preferably in a non-profit organization.
· Experience with QuickBooks Premier Plus, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
· Bachelor’s degree or at least 5+ years of experience.
· Understanding or willing to learn cloud storage systems such as SharePoint.
· Willing to learn and comply with digital security and other necessary measures to protect ICAN's digital information and networks.
· Great attention to details, self-motivated, disciplined, and flexible to suit a dynamic working environment.
· Strong interpersonal skills and respect for people with other cultures and backgrounds.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
