OVERVIEW:

The Staff Accountant reports to the Controller. Maintains and controls the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable accounts and business transactions, applying the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) that includes analytical work and thorough review of financial records. This position is responsible for a variety of complex clerical and accounting functions and large sums of money for the organization, working under general instruction and following established procedures with minimal supervision. This position works with a wide range of persons including vendors, staff, contractors and the public. This position is a hybrid position with up to 50% remote work available.

DUTIES:

  • Assist with daily, monthly, quarterly and annual operations of the Fiscal Department
  • Process and record accounts payable transactions and ensure that all invoices and reimbursements are paid accurately and in accordance with department policies and procedures
  • Prepare and record accounts receivable invoices as needed and directed
  • Review and process employee reimbursements for mileage and expenses
  • Review timecards and process payroll
  • Assist in maintaining data files, schedules and worksheets
  • Post general ledger entries as directed
  • Maintain office supply inventory and order replenishment supplies as needed
  • Assumes the duties of the Finance Assistant position if that position is vacant
  • Any other duties as directed by the supervisor

  • Familiar with OMB Circulars and/ or Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Must be computer literate. Familiar with Microsoft Office, Excel, Access and/or other software programs
  • Must be able to effectively represent the organization by maintaining a positive, businesslike image and work with staff, management and customers in a polite, tactful and positive professional manner at all times
  • Ability to recognize and solve problems, using resources and knowledge of resources and techniques, both within and outside the organization

Maintains credentials as required by certifying/licensing body. Participates in professional development and in-service programs required by the position.

May represent the organization through various avenues of phone contact, mailing and electronic mailing.

Has knowledge and understanding of the agency’s internal and external customer needs and is committed to meeting or exceeding those expectations. Gathers and analyzes specific customer needs to continuously improve the fiscal processes.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business Administration
  • 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Coursework in Government and Not For Profit Accounting desirable

1+ year office experience in accounting work preferred

Must be able to travel independently, provide own transportation, and demonstrate proof of insurance at $100,000/$300,000.

  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Travel to all seven counties and other agencies or a government unit may be required.
  • Trips outside the Region and overnight trips for meetings and/or training is required on an as requested’ basis.
