Staff Accountant

Job Summary

Whetstone Distribution is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Staff Accountant to support the Plant Controller and Senior Accountant in managing daily accounting operations across four different business units. This role is ideal for someone with strong foundational accounting skills and experience (or interest) in cost accounting within a manufacturing or food production environment.

Job Duties

• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations
• Maintain general ledger accuracy and ensure timely financial reporting
• Support inventory accounting, including tracking, valuation, and reconciliation
• Assist in developing and analyzing standard costs, variances, and production metrics
• Partner with operations to monitor and improve cost controls and efficiencies
• Prepare financial reports and assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
• Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies
• Assist with audits and provide supporting documentation as needed
• Support accounts payable/receivable processes as required

Position Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 2–4 years of accounting experience (manufacturing or food industry experience preferred)
• Cost accounting experience or exposure strongly preferred
• Experience with inventory and production environments
• Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret financial and operational data
• Strong communication skills to work cross-functionally with operations teams
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; experience with ERP systems is a plus
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
• Willingness to travel to Kansas City and Milwaukee on a bimonthly basis

Pay: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
