Staff Accountant

Payroll Processing

  • Initiate, book, and reconcile payroll transactions
  • Prepare comprehensive payroll packets for accurate record-keeping
  • Upload payroll data to the General Ledger
  • Process payment entries for payroll liabilities
  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of all payroll-related financial transactions
  • Make monthly journal entries related to payroll (sabbatical stipends, marriage retreat stipends, miscellaneous charges, staff fund reallocations, etc.)

Financial Reconciliation & Month-End Close

  • Perform month-end closing entries for financial accuracy
  • Assist in Trial Balance Account Reconciliation for the Year-End Audit
  • Conduct Quarterly Income Reconciliation
  • Process miscellaneous journal entries and fund transfers

Budget Support

  • Assist with preparation of the annual budget, including gathering data, preparing schedules, reconciling historical results, and supporting budget analysis

Audit Support

  • Assist in the audit process by gathering and troubleshooting data
  • Execute basic entries pertaining to the audit

Reporting

  • Create financial reporting packages and schedules in Sage Intacct for staff, fund managers, and directors
  • Maintain and troubleshoot reports
  • Review monthly reports with campus, regional, and fund directors; respond to questions and comments
  • Prepare TTT Operations reporting; create budgets and provide feedback

Project & Fund Management

  • Manage multiple summer projects and conference funds by creating guidelines, budgets, and reports; coordinate with project directors and admins (27 projects in 2025)
  • Create and integrate Kaleo and Summer Team funds across Sage Intacct, Rock, and Center
  • Troubleshoot complex financial issues with overseas summer projects
  • Reconcile all summer projects (Kaleo, Summer Teams, Summer Trainings, IT Project) and report to directors
  • Initiate and coordinate per diem for 500+ Kaleo students over the summer
  • Train Kaleo admins on Kaleo finances, per diem, and payroll
  • Troubleshoot and field questions from regional Project Managers and Admins on summer projects, HQ policies, reports, and expenses

Compliance

  • Research compliance laws for new states when new staff onboard
  • Determine applicable tax obligations and exemptions as a church organization
  • Create accounts and register in new states, as applicable

Additional Responsibilities

  • Enter sales data for StuMo, TTT, and TFF (Square, Stripe, PayPal)
  • Pay sales tax monthly
  • Calculate and process SMC Scholarship charges annually
  • Engage in data entry projects using Sage Intacct and online banking platforms
  • Troubleshoot staff questions via Teams and Email
  • Participate in other accounting projects as needed

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 1–3 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred
  • Familiarity with fund accounting or nonprofit/ministry accounting a plus
  • Experience with Sage Intacct or similar accounting software
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Excellent communication and ability to work cross-functionally with ministry staff
  • Alignment with StuMo’s mission and values

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $50,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
