Staff Accountant – Tax & Bookkeeping (Remote)

Jones Taxes & Financial Services is a growing CPA firm serving small business owners across the United States, with a strong focus on childcare businesses, healthcare organizations, and service-based companies.

We help business owners understand their numbers, reduce tax surprises, improve profitability, and make better financial decisions.

We're looking for an accountant who enjoys solving problems, learning new things, communicating with clients, and taking ownership of their work.

This is not a position for someone who wants to wait for instructions all day. We invest in our team and promote from within whenever possible. We would much rather develop great people than constantly replace them.

This is a position for someone who wants to grow.

What You'll Do

You'll manage a portfolio of bookkeeping and tax clients and be responsible for:

• Monthly bookkeeping and account reconciliations
• Reviewing and correcting accounting issues
• Preparing Profit & Loss Statements and Balance Sheets
• Preparing business and individual tax returns
• Responding to client questions through our client portal
• Reviewing your own work before submitting it for review
• Participating in peer review and quality control processes
• Researching accounting and tax issues
• Helping business owners make sense of their numbers

Most of our tax work involves:

• Form 1040
• Form 1120-S
• Form 1065
• Schedules C and Schedule E

Experience with Form 990 returns is a plus but not required.

Experience with IRS notices, tax resolution, or taxpayer representation is also a plus.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum 2 years of tax preparation and/or public accounting experience
• Experience preparing business and individual tax returns
• Strong bookkeeping and account reconciliation skills
• QuickBooks Online experience
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment

Preferred:

• Experience working in a small CPA, accounting, bookkeeping, or tax firm
• Experience with TaxAct Professional software
• Experience with Xero
• CPA candidate, EA candidate, or accounting degree
• Experience preparing Forms 1120-S, 1065, 1040, and 990

Compensation & Benefits

• Full-time remote position
• Monday–Friday
• 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time
• Salary: $45,000–$50,000 DOE
• 90-day performance review
