Overview
Arizona Legal Women and Youth Services (ALWAYS) is hiring a Staff Attorney with at least two years of immigration experience to join our team of attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representative, social worker, and other advocates in our fight to ensure trafficking survivors and vulnerable young people are able to access justice for themselves and their loved ones. This is a hybrid position that requires Staff Attorneys to work out of ALWAYS' office in Central Phoenix at least two days a week and also periodically participate in outreach efforts along with other members of the team.

Duties and Responsibilities
Legal Representation
- Conduct screenings and intakes to assess eligibility for services and avenues of relief;
- Prepare and file cases in dependency or probate (guardianship) court of SIJ-eligible youth including, but not limited to, initial petitions and requests for SIJ findings;
- Prepare and submit affirmative immigration applications to USCIS, which may include any of the following, as well as respond to any resulting Requests for Evidence from USCIS: Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, T-Visas, U-Visas, Violence Against Women Act, Employment Authorization Documents, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (Renewals), Lawful Permanent Residence, and U.S. Citizenship.
Additional Legal Representation Responsibilities
- Work alongside other staff to provide referrals to people who are deemed ineligible for ALWAYS services;
- Prepare or amend retainer agreements based on scope of representation, legal opinion, and risk assessment;
- Comply with rules of procedure, including tracking/compliance with deadlines;
- Maintain client files and documentary evidence for all matters.
Recording, Reporting, and Collaboration
- Maintain accurate and timely records and track eligible activities in ALWAYS' case management system and on appropriate logs;
- Assist with the collection of case information so ALWAYS can report on its impact to funders and the larger community;
- Participate in Team Meetings, Case Staffings, and 1:1s.
Community Outreach
- Work collaboratively with referring organizations;
- Develop a working relationship with organizations doing similar work to ensure efforts are not being duplicated;
- Identify referral opportunities and work with partner community-based organizations to ensure that clients receive holistic services;
- Help represent ALWAYS at community drop-in clinics, fairs, and other events for clients and potential clients;
- Prepare written materials to distribute to the communities ALWAYS serves, as well as community partners, and other supporters;
- Participate in organizational fundraising and communications efforts as needed.
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school;
- Active Arizona Bar license, in good standing;
- At least two (2) years of immigration litigation/application experience as a licensed attorney;
- Proven dedication to advancing the rights of vulnerable and marginalized persons;
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively with colleagues;
- Strong organizational skills;
- Ability to keep privileged information confidential;
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Written and spoken Spanish fluency;
- Experience working with survivors of trafficking, victims of crime, people experiencing homelessness, and/or young people who are or have been involved in the foster care system.
Physical Demands
Staff Attorneys Must be Able to:
- Travel periodically to Pima County, as well as regularly to off-site locations in Maricopa County (mileage to and from the office for these instances is reimbursed by ALWAYS);
- Sit for prolonged periods working on a computer and/or meeting with a client;
- Lift 15 pounds.

Pay: $68,000.00 - $78,000.00 per year
