Brief Description

Position Summary:

Responsible for the day-to-day activities in the school-age group room. Offer support as needed to the Preschool program. They will supervise school-age children, plan, and deliver creative, educational and fun activities in the afternoon and evening. Works with Associate Director of Children’s Services and The Weinberg Child Development Center Staff to plan family activities as well as full day school closure support for families in Shelter.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Creates and implements weekly lesson plans for the school-age children.
  • Assists with homework.
  • Coordinates, maintains and supervises the children’s computer lab.
  • Ensures cleanliness, proper arrangement, organization and stimulation in indoor/outdoor learning environments used by the school-age children.
  • Effectively mediates disputes between children, staff, parents and other caregivers.
  • Provide support to Preschool Program as needed.
  • Tracks inventory of school-age appropriate toys and educational materials and informs the Director when supplies are low.
  • Records daily attendance.
  • Participates in relationship-based practice and reflective supervision.
  • Attends and participates in weekly staff meeting and trainings appropriate to this position.
  • Assists in the sorting, storage and distribution of children’s donations, children’s closet. toy room and diaper room.

Experience, Education, Certifications/Licenses

  • Must be 21 years old or older.
  • High school diploma or GED required, some college preferred.
  • One (1) year experience working with the school-age population.
  • One (1) year experience working with preschoolers or infants/toddlers preferred.
  • 90 Clock hours in Early Childhood Curriculum and Development or equivalent preferred.
  • 45 Clock hours in School age Curriculum and Development or equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledgeable about the impact of intimate partner violence and trauma on child development and behavior, and on their families.
  • Demonstrates ability to manage emotionally traumatized children as part of a team.
  • Demonstrates competence with computer systems including MS Word, agency email and client/outcome data base systems.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to respond quickly to children who may be in danger of getting hurt, in the classroom and on the playground,
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check.
