Staff Chemist

JOB PURPOSE:

Acts as a technical expert, providing problem-solving consultation and technical expertise in quality control, applications, scientific research and new product development. Designs complex experiments in the laboratory, based on requirements of the industry, customers, and field of specialization. Provides technical expertise to support laboratory operations by leading the troubleshooting of existing chemical validations and preparations and develops new methods when required. Supports laboratory training (TDP) program with L&D department and Lab Trainer.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Supports laboratory manager in developing appropriate policies and procedures to cover key areas of activity. Develop monitoring matrix to ensure systems are working effectively.

• Supports laboratory manager in developing and reviewing appropriate policies and procedures to ensure Safe working practices, Good Laboratory Practices and regulatory compliance in the areas of Safety, Quality, and Environmental analysis.

• Designs and conduct complex experiments and analyses in the laboratory, based on industry, customer or field of specialization requirements.

• Leads the identification, development and deployment of new analytical technologies to support product and process development.

• Leads the troubleshooting of existing chemicals validations and preparations and develop new validation methods if required.

• Prepares application development reports for presentation to internal and external customers.

• Provides technical evaluations for the procurement of advanced laboratory equipment.

• Acts as a liaison to evaluate market potential and external technologies for applied research.

• Conducts applied research studies on performance modelling, product and process characterization and analyses.

• Leads applied research projects to drive chemical product innovation.

• Represents the organization at scientific forums and present applied research papers.

• Ensures proper implementation of Safety, Quality and Environmental testing related policies and procedures thought the effective communication and monitoring.

• Ensures full compliance with UN Regulations and IATA guidelines in shipping Hazardous chemicals/ samples out of KSA.

• Develops Laboratory Quality Management system to be in compliance with laboratory related international standards.

• Prepares annual Laboratory Quality Objectives in consonance with Laboratory Quality policy.

• Obtains approval for quality policy and communicate suitably to ensure its implementation

• Prepares laboratory for acquiring laboratory specific ISO standard (ISO-17025) accreditation and maintains regular follow up and conducts internal periodical audits to maintain the certification.

• Develops Lab equipment maintenance and calibration plan and holds regular meetings with the resident engineer or vendors to evaluate the progress and discuss open issues.

• Maintains lab equipment failing database (bad actors), conducts analysis, and proposes improvement measures to increase equipment reliability and availability.

• Obtains competency gap analysis of Senior -Technicians, Lead Technicians and Analysts in coordination with individuals and their supervisors.

• Prepares annual training plan based on competency gap analysis.

• Advocates safety culture across the organization.

• Advocates quality culture across the company.

• Strictly follows established environmental, health, safety and quality policies and procedures in order to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, delivery of high-quality products/services and a responsible environmental attitude.

• Undertakes accountabilities in the operational excellence process as set out in the schedule of responsibilities.

• Contributes to the processes of continuous improvement for the area assigned.

• Performs any other relevant task as directed by Manager Laboratory.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Academic background includes a minimum of bachelor's degree in Chemistry.

• +8 Years of related experience.
