Job Title: Staff Dentist

Reports To: Dental Director

FLSA Status: Exempt

Classification: Regular, Part-Time

Schedule: Tuesday - Friday 10am-6:30pm

Location: Onsite, position may be assigned to work at both IHC locations

SUMMARY:

Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries and malformations of teeth and gums, and related oral structures by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The information in this job description indicates the general nature and level of work performed. 1. Perform patient examinations and oral cancer screening.

2. Educate patients in oral and dental hygiene.

3. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of dental diseases, injuries and malformations of the oral cavity and surrounding tissues.

4. Oral manifestations of systemic diseases will be treated in conjunction with appropriate consultation and referral to the patient's physician. Routinely screened for hypertension and refer as needed.

5. Provide routine dental care to all eligible patients as outlined by the IHC eligibility grid. Services include general operative procedures, prosthodontics, removable prosthetics, endodontic, oral surgery, preventive and educational services. Administers anesthetic for dental procedures.

6. Provide timely emergency treatment for all eligible patients according to dental emergency treatment protocol.

7. Attend continuing dental education to maintain a current dental license and to be informed of new techniques and philosophies.

8. Participates in all department educational development activities to include but not limited to CQI, chart audits, referral follow up and departmental policies and procedure development.

9. Assist with in-service training, as needed.

10. Maintain and practice confidentiality at all times.

11. Position may be reassigned during activation of EOP.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

TRAVEL & DRIVING REQUIREMENTS

  • Travel is not required for this position.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of an accredited dental school
  • Two (2) years dentistry experience beyond school of dentistry required. 5+ years preferred.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with ability to interpret complex medical data essential.
  • Creative, energetic individual with strong public relations abilities
  • Professional demeanor, attitude, and motivation essential.
  • Thorough knowledge of principles of modern dental practices to public services; structure and functions of public health organizations; and current social and economic problems pertaining to Native American.
  • General knowledge of state and federal laws pertaining to public health.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; coordinate activities among public, public, private, and professional groups; express ideas clearly and concisely; address audiences effectively; and exercise balanced judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Productivity Software: Microsoft Office 365; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Email & Calendar Management (outlook), Teams (video conferencing and meetings), and Share Point.
  • Electronic health records software (EPIC/QSI preferred).
  • Utilization of Paycom, Paycom Learning, and PolicyTech systems.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, MEMBERSHIPS AND REGULATIONS

  • California Dental license (current and unrestricted).
  • DEA license (current and unrestricted).
  • Current BLS CPR certifications.
  • Applicants must successfully pass a pre-employment physical exam, tuberculin skin test or x-ray and urine drug screen test to include the presence of marijuana. Health must be adequate to perform all duties of the position.
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Active membership in the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and applicable county component (Orange, Riverside, or San Diego) preferred, but not required.
