Roles of a Staff Nurse
- Care Provider – Deliver direct patient care including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
- Advocate – Safeguard patient rights, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Educator – Provide health education to patients, families, and communities.
- Coordinator – Collaborate with doctors, specialists, and other healthcare team members.
- Manager – Maintain safe, clean environments, manage supplies, and ensure adherence to protocols.

Responsibilities of a Staff Nurse
- Patient Care
- Monitor vital signs and health status.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Assist in daily living activities (feeding, bathing, mobility).
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Clinical Duties
- Assist doctors during rounds, procedures, and emergencies.
- Provide wound care, IV therapy, catheterization, and other nursing procedures.
- Observe and promptly report any changes in patient condition.
- Safety & Hygiene
- Follow infection control protocols.
- Ensure a clean and safe patient environment.
- Manage equipment sterilization and proper disposal of medical waste.
- Patient & Family Support
- Educate patients and families about treatment, medication, diet, and lifestyle.
- Provide emotional support to patients and relatives.
- Address patient complaints or concerns empathetically.
- Administrative Duties
- Maintain stock of medicines and supplies.
- Prepare reports and handovers for continuity of care.
- Follow hospital rules, ethical practices, and legal requirements.
