The ICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality critical care nursing to patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit. The role involves continuous monitoring, timely interventions, patient and family communication, and ensuring adherence to clinical and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities1. Patient Care & Monitoring

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients.
  • Monitor vital signs, neurological status, hemodynamics, and ventilatory parameters.
  • Assist in life-support measures and emergency interventions.
  • Administer medications, IV fluids, and injections as per doctor’s orders.
  • Manage ventilators, CPAP/BiPAP, infusion pumps, defibrillators, and other ICU equipment.

2. Clinical Documentation

  • Maintain accurate and timely nursing notes, vital charts, intake-output charts, and treatment records.
  • Document critical events, incidents, and progress notes as per hospital policy.
  • Ensure proper handover and takeover at shift change.

3. Coordination & Communication

  • Assist doctors during rounds, procedures, and emergency situations.
  • Communicate effectively with consultants, medical officers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Educate and support patient relatives regarding ICU protocols and patient condition (as permitted).

4. Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow strict infection control practices, including hand hygiene and aseptic techniques.
  • Ensure proper disposal of biomedical waste.
  • Maintain cleanliness and readiness of ICU beds and equipment.

5. Medication & Equipment Management

  • Check crash cart stock, emergency medicines, and consumables every shift.
  • Ensure proper calibration and functioning of ICU machines.
  • Report malfunctioning equipment immediately.

6. Emergency Response

  • Act promptly in case of code blue, rapid response, and critical deterioration.
  • Perform CPR and assist in resuscitation procedures as required.

Qualification & Experience

  • GNM / B.Sc. Nursing.
  • Valid Nursing Council Registration.
  • 1–3 years of experience in ICU/CCU preferred (freshers may be considered with training).

  • Strong clinical judgment and critical care skills.
  • Proficiency in ICU equipment handling.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Good communication and teamwork.
  • Attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Compassionate and patient-centric approach.

Work Conditions

  • Rotational shifts (morning/evening/night).
  • High-pressure environment with continuous patient monitoring.
  • On-call duty as required.
