The ICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients, ensuring continuous monitoring, timely interventions, infection control, and maintaining high standards of patient safety and documentation within the ICU.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients.
- Perform continuous monitoring of vital signs, ECG, ventilator parameters, infusion pumps, and other life-support systems.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood transfusion as per doctor’s orders with proper protocols.
- Assist doctors during bedside procedures (intubation, central line insertion, RRT, CPR, etc.).
- Ensure strict infection control practices and maintenance of aseptic conditions.
- Manage ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP machines, and other ICU equipment effectively.
- Prepare and maintain nursing documentation including intake-output chart, nursing notes, and EMR (if applicable).
- Provide pre- and post-operative care for surgical ICU patients.
- Identify and respond promptly to changes in patient condition (code blue/emergency handling).
- Maintain proper handover between shifts and effective communication with healthcare team & patient family.
- Ensure safe handling of medications, equipment, and patient belongings.
- Participate in daily rounds, audits, and quality improvement programs.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and emotional support for family.
- Comply with hospital policies, NABH standards, fire & safety protocols.
Qualifications & Skills
- GNM / B.Sc. Nursing with valid registration from State Nursing Council.
- Minimum 1–3 years of ICU/CCU experience preferred (freshers can also be considered as trainees).
- Strong knowledge of ICU protocols, emergency care, and critical patient handling.
- Ability to handle ICU equipment (ventilator, defibrillator, syringe pump, etc.).
- Good clinical judgment, communication, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in rotational shifts and high-pressure environment.
