Key Responsibilities
- Patient Monitoring:Closely monitor the mother's vital signs, the baby's heart rate, and the progress of labor.
- Direct Care:Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by the physician.
- Delivery Assistance:Assist the doctor during labor and delivery.
- Postpartum Care:Provide care for the mother and newborn in the immediate postpartum period, teaching the mother about breastfeeding and infant care.
- Emotional Support:Offer emotional and psychological support to the mother and her family.
- Documentation:Maintain detailed records of patient histories, observations, and any changes in condition.
- Team Collaboration:Work effectively with physicians, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Equipment Management:Ensure the labor room is prepared with necessary equipment, instruments, and emergency drugs.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Nursing Education:A degree in nursing, such as an associate's or bachelor's degree.
- Nursing License:A valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Clinical Experience:Experience in labor and delivery is often required.
- Communication Skills:Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for patient and team interactions.
- Stress Management:The ability to work effectively under pressure and in stressful situations.
- Flexibility:A willingness to work shifts and be on-call for emergencies.
