Staff Nurse (Labour Ward)

  • Monitoring Patients: Labor ward nurses continuously monitor the health of the mother and fetus during labor. This includes tracking vital signs, fetal heart rates, and the progress of labor contractions.
  • Assisting During Delivery: They assist obstetricians and midwives during the delivery process, providing support and guidance to the mother. This may involve coaching the mother through contractions, helping with positioning, and administering medications as needed.
  • Postpartum Care: After delivery, labor ward nurses provide care to both the mother and newborn. This includes monitoring recovery, providing education on infant care, and addressing any complications that may arise.
  • Patient Education: They educate expectant mothers and their families about the childbirth process, pain management options, and postpartum recovery. This education is vital for ensuring that families feel prepared and supported.
  • Maintaining a Safe Environment: Labor ward nurses ensure that the delivery room is sterile and safe for both the mother and baby. They are responsible for preparing the delivery area and ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and functioning.
  • Emotional Support: Providing emotional support and reassurance to mothers during labor is a critical aspect of their role. They help alleviate anxiety and create a comforting environment during a potentially stressful time.
