Staff Nurse-Longevity Clinic - Nursing

Job Purpose

The Staff Nurse is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The Staff Nurse supports professional nursing practice across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The Staff Nurse will understand, support and promote the mission, vision and values of SSMC; provides age appropriate patient care according to the Nursing Scope of Practice as defined by the regulatory body. The Staff Nurse will adhere to and promote the Professional Nurses Code of Conduct for Abu Dhabi and UAE.

Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Diagnosis
    • Collect and analyse assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues across physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs.
    • Use evidence based assessment techniques and instruments; validate diagnosis with patient, family, and team.
    • Prioritise data and information based on patient's immediate condition or anticipated needs; identify potential risks or barriers to patient health or safety.
    • Document data and information collected in compliance with guidelines.
  • Planning and Outcomes Identification
    • Identify expected outcomes and develop a plan addressing health promotion, restoration, and maintenance.
    • Involve patient, family and team in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan.
    • Apply evidence based nursing practices to attain outcomes and continuity of care.
    • Modify the individualized plan according to ongoing assessment and reevaluation.
    • Document expected outcomes as measurable goals using standardized language.
  • Implementation and Coordination of Care Delivery
    • Implement the plan of care with patient, family, and team in a timely manner using evidence based interventions.
    • Perform treatments and procedures according to established guidelines.
    • Administer medications per policies and procedures.
    • Ensure all components of the individualized plan, including modifications, are documented.
    • Communicate relevant information across all levels of care and organizations.
    • Demonstrate working knowledge of resource consumption and cost effective practices.
  • Health Teaching and Health Promotion
    • Utilise appropriate teaching strategies for the individual patient's condition and learning needs.
    • Use health promotion to support patients and families in developing healthy lifestyles and self management.
    • Seek opportunities for feedback and evaluate effectiveness of strategies, including teach back.
    • Document all components of health education relevant to the clinical condition.
  • Evaluation
    • Evaluate progress toward outcomes and patient/family understanding.
    • Revise nursing diagnoses, outcomes, and plans using systematic, ongoing assessment data.
    • Involve patient, family, and team in the evaluation process.
    • Provide comprehensive clinical handover/report as required.
    • Attend patient care rounds, communicate and update the attending provider on changes.
    • Document reassessment of status, participation, and rationale for plan revision.
  • Evidence Based Practice and Research
    • Integrate current evidence based nursing knowledge and research into practice.
    • Participate in evidence based and research activities appropriate to education and position.
    • Share findings with team members.
    • Participate in performance improvement projects.
  • Leadership
    • Act as professional role model promoting a positive, team based, safe work environment.
    • Coordinate and supervise delegated activities; provide resources.
    • Demonstrate critical thinking in priority setting and decision making.
    • Pursue informal and formal leadership opportunities.
    • Participate in organizational shared decision making improving practice and outcomes.
    • Supervise practical nurses, junior staff, and student nurses.
  • Accountability
    • Apply principles of professional codes of ethics ensuring patient rights.
    • Maintain therapeutic nurse patient relationship; advocate for patients.
    • Speak up to question unsafe practices.
    • Disclose illegal or incompetent practices per policy.
    • Evaluate own practice against standards, regulations, and guidelines.
    • Consider cost, environmental health, and impact on practice.
    • Utilise current resources for standards of care and patient needs.
    • Navigate electronic resources for information retrieval and documentation.
    • Evaluate factors related to safety, effectiveness, and cost when choosing options.
    • Promote a practice environment that reduces environmental health risks.
    • Communicate risks and reduction strategies to consumers, families, and communities.
    • Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and mentor others.
    • Oversee and respond to emergencies per policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Experience
    • At least 2 years clinical experience post qualification in an appropriate setting (waived for graduates of UAE nursing colleges/universities after internship).
  • Educational Qualification - Required
    • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
    • Or a nursing degree (minimum 2 year course) and registration as a Registered Nurse from Canada, USA, UK, Ireland, South Africa, New Zealand, or Australia.
    • Valid/current national licence.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Desired
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) related to area of specialty.
