Job Title: Staff Nurse – Operation Theater (OT)
Job Summary:
The Staff Nurse – OT provides specialized perioperative nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. This role ensures patient safety, maintains sterile environments, assists surgeons and anesthesiologists during operations, and supports pre- and post-operative care. The OT nurse plays a critical role in ensuring smooth surgical workflow and adherence to hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare patients for surgical procedures, including assessment, positioning, and vital sign monitoring.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during operations, handling instruments, sutures, and sterile equipment.
- Maintain strict aseptic and infection control practices in the OT.
- Monitor patient status throughout surgical procedures and report any changes promptly.
- Prepare and manage surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies before, during, and after procedures.
- Provide post-operative care, including monitoring recovery, managing complications, and educating patients and families.
- Document surgical procedures, patient care, and anesthesia records accurately.
- Ensure OT equipment is functioning correctly and report any malfunctions or issues.
- Participate in emergency surgical procedures and adhere to hospital safety protocols.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care and surgical outcomes.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing license.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing preferred).
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience; OT experience is highly preferred.
- Knowledge of perioperative care, surgical procedures, and sterile techniques.
- Ability to handle high-stress situations and provide patient-centered care.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods during surgical procedures.
- Capable of assisting in patient positioning and handling surgical equipment.
Preferred Skills:
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is preferred.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced OT environment.
- Familiarity with surgical instruments, anesthesia equipment, and OT protocols.
