Staff Nurse – Operation Theatre (OT)

Job Summary

The OT Staff Nurse provides safe, effective, and high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing surgical procedures. They work as part of the operating theatre team to prepare patients, assist during surgery, and ensure optimal postoperative care while maintaining strict standards of asepsis and patient safety.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-operative Care

  • Prepare operating theatre, instruments, and equipment according to procedure requirements
  • Verify patient identity, consent, and surgical site
  • Perform pre-operative assessments and documentation
  • Provide psychological support and reassurance to patients
  • Ensure infection control and aseptic techniques are followed

Intra-operative Care

  • Assist surgeons and anesthetists during procedures (scrub, circulating, or assisting role)
  • Maintain sterile field and adhere to safety protocols
  • Monitor patient condition and respond to emergencies
  • Handle surgical instruments, swabs, and equipment accurately
  • Ensure correct surgical counts (instruments, needles, swabs)

Post-operative Care

  • Transfer patients safely to recovery area
  • Monitor vital signs and patient condition
  • Document surgical procedures and nursing care provided
  • Report any complications or concerns promptly
  • Ensure proper disposal of clinical waste and cleaning of OT

Patient Safety & Quality

  • Follow hospital policies, protocols, and standard operating procedures
  • Maintain infection control and patient safety standards
  • Participate in quality improvement and audit activities
  • Report incidents and near misses as per policy

Administrative & Professional Duties

  • Maintain accurate nursing records and documentation
  • Participate in training, continuing education, and skill development
  • Supervise and guide junior staff and students when required
  • Maintain professional conduct and confidentiality at all times

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: Up to ₹22,000.00 per month
