- Monitoring patients: Continuously observe patient conditions for signs of improvement or deterioration, and monitor vital signs like blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels.
- Medication administration: Administer prescribed medications, including injections and IV fluids, according to doctor's orders.
- Wound care and post-surgical care: Provide wound dressings and manage post-surgical care for patients.
- Emergency response: Respond promptly to medical emergencies, performing interventions like CPR and other life-saving procedures when necessary.
Care Planning & Collaboration
- Developing care plans: Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to create individualized treatment and care plans.
- Assisting with procedures: Prepare patients and assist doctors with various medical and surgical diagnostic procedures.
Patient & Family Education
- Educating patients: Explain medical conditions, post-discharge care instructions, and medication usage to patients and their families.
- Promoting health: Educate patients on disease prevention and lifestyle changes to promote overall health and well-being.
Environmental & Administrative Duties
- Maintaining hygiene and safety: Ensure patient areas are clean and safe, and follow infection control protocols to prevent the spread of infections.
- Record keeping: Accurately record patient medical histories, vital signs, and developments in their health conditions.
- Supervising staff: May supervise and guide nursing students and newly qualified nurses.
