SUMMARY:

  • Position functions as part of an engaged, collaborative and experienced health clinic with primary care, behavioral health & recovery program services in one location. Works with other primary care providers as a member of a clinical team to provide primary care and chronic disease management services in a clinical setting for non-emergency patients. Also provides consultation and advice to other members of the clinical team while maintaining collaborative peer relationships.
  • This position collaborates with a Health and Substance Use Disorder treatment model, offering Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) and other Recovery Program services.
  • Full-time position (40hrs/week) consisting of a stable patient care panel, M-F only hours corresponding to Clinic hours; could require occasional late afternoon/early evening coverage, including option for a 4x10 schedule arrangement if desired. No weekends/no holidays/no travel/limited on-call.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs clinical services consistent with education, training, licensure and certification.
  • Participates in the clinical program of the organization according to the guidelines established for all physicians of similar training and board certification.
  • Provides ambulatory primary care in the clinic setting and added special credentialed and approved services.
  • Ensures that medical records are accurate and documentation is done in a timely manner.
  • Functions as a member of the patient’s health care team by participating in patient care conferences with other members of the Clinic health care team and especially with the RN Care Manager and/or Behavioral Health team staff. Consults with the Traverse Health Clinic Chief Clinical Officer as appropriate.
  • Participates in competency activities such as quality review/peer review activities as a member of the clinical team.
  • Contributes to planning programs and in developing specific health policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintains up to date and accurate knowledge and competence with proper coding and documentation as required by the Clinic.
  • Available by phone for night and weekend questions, on a rotating basis, from the on-call nursing staff or for critical calls from the hospital or laboratory.
  • Works closely with staff in other Clinic programs on all issues requiring medical input.
  • Utilizes designated electronic systems as required. Complies with all security, access and use pertaining to any organizational approved electronic systems involving Protected Health Information (PHI) in line with proper level of authorization and discretionary access control based on the employee’s position/role.
  • Complies with all policies and procedures of Traverse Health Clinic, including HIPAA and 42CFR.
  • Acts in a professional manner reflecting the mission of Traverse Health Clinic.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current physician license, in good standing, to practice medicine in the State of Michigan. Certification by the American Board of Family Medicine or the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Previous experience, post-residency, in primary care, ideally 3-5 years desired.
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary collaboration to enhance health care delivery.
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support and able to use the AED.
  • Preference given to candidates who have served in integrated systems and who have worked collaboratively with advanced practice nurses.
  • Respect for the dignity of all persons and cultural competency should be modeled. Ability to relate well with diverse populations of varying socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Enthusiasm about achieving the mission of the clinic and the ability to foster this across clinic employed and volunteer staff. Well-developed skills in team member relations, communication, problem solving, boundary-setting and organization.
