DoD STARBASE at STARBASE ROBINS is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and student-centered professional to serve as the STARBASE Advanced / STARBASE 2.0 Afterschool Coordinator.

This position is ideal for an energetic STEM educator or youth development professional who is passionate about middle school students, hands-on STEM learning, robotics, leadership development, and building meaningful relationships with schools and volunteers. The coordinator must be an independent thinker, self-starter, organized leader, and collaborative team member capable of managing multiple STEM initiatives across several school sites.

The STARBASE 2.0 Coordinator plays a critical role in expanding STEM opportunities for middle school students through afterschool clubs, robotics competitions, mentoring experiences, and advanced STEM programming aligned with the mission of DoD STARBASE.

Salary Range

$49,000 – $52,600 annually
Commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The STARBASE Advanced / STARBASE 2.0 Afterschool Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate and oversee STARBASE 2.0 afterschool STEM clubs at participating middle schools
  • Develop and facilitate engaging STEM learning experiences for students in grades 6–8
  • Organize and support robotics, engineering, coding, drone, and technology-based projects
  • Lead and coordinate FIRST LEGO League teams and related robotics activities
  • Recruit, screen, train, and support volunteer STEM mentors and coaches
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with school administrators, teachers, and community stakeholders
  • Assist with planning and implementation of STEM competitions, showcases, camps, and special events
  • Track program participation, student outcomes, volunteer engagement, and required program data
  • Support program marketing, outreach, and student recruitment efforts
  • Maintain STEM equipment, robotics kits, and instructional materials
  • Work collaboratively with STARBASE ROBINS instructional staff to ensure high-quality programming
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and motivating learning environment for middle school students
  • Encourage teamwork, creativity, leadership, and problem-solving among students
  • Assist with grant-related reporting and documentation as needed
  • Represent STARBASE ROBINS professionally within schools and the community

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM-related field, education, youth development, or related discipline
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with youth, preferably middle school students
  • Demonstrated passion for STEM education and hands-on learning
  • Experience organizing or facilitating STEM activities, robotics, coding, engineering, or maker-based projects
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a small team environment
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and school partnerships simultaneously
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general educational technology tools
  • Reliable transportation for travel between participating schools and program sites

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with FIRST LEGO League, robotics competitions, or STEM team coaching
  • Experience coordinating afterschool or extended learning programs
  • Experience working with volunteers and community partners
  • Familiarity with drone technology, coding platforms, engineering design, or emerging STEM technologies
  • Teaching certification or prior classroom instructional experience preferred

Work Schedule

This position requires a flexible work schedule that includes regular afternoon and occasional evening responsibilities aligned with afterschool programming, competitions, events, and volunteer training activities. Typical schedule is 8am - 5pm.

About STARBASE ROBINS

STARBASE ROBINS is part of the national DoD STARBASE initiative dedicated to inspiring students through experiential STEM education. The program serves students across Middle Georgia through immersive STEM academies, afterschool mentoring, robotics, engineering, coding, and advanced STEM opportunities designed to build the next generation of innovators and leaders. This is a non-federal position.

Pay: $49,000.00 - $52,600.00 per year
