Position Overview
The Steel Fabrication Production Engineer is responsible for managing and optimizing fabrication operations to ensure efficient, safe, and high-quality production of structural steel components. The role requires strong technical expertise in steel fabrication processes, production planning, and cross-functional coordination to meet project schedules, cost targets, and quality requirements in compliance with UAE regulations and international standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesProduction Planning & Execution
- Develop, implement, and monitor detailed production plans aligned with project schedules and contractual milestones.
- Ensure smooth execution of fabrication activities including cutting, drilling, fit-up, welding, blasting, and painting.
- Monitor daily production output and take corrective actions to address delays or bottlenecks.
- Optimize workflow, manpower allocation, and machine utilization to maximize productivity and efficiency.
Technical & Engineering Control
- Review and interpret IFC drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication specifications.
- Coordinate with detailing and engineering teams to resolve constructability and fabrication issues.
- Ensure compliance with approved WPS, PQR, and fabrication methodologies.
Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure all fabrication activities comply with approved ITPs, QMS procedures, and project specifications.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for internal inspections, third-party inspections, and client approvals.
- Lead resolution of NCRs and implement preventive and corrective actions.
Cost & Resource Management
- Monitor material consumption, steel yield, and fabrication efficiency to control production costs.
- Coordinate with procurement and stores to ensure timely availability of materials and consumables.
- Minimize rework, scrap, and wastage through effective planning and supervision.
Coordination & Reporting
- Liaise closely with project management, planning, QA/QC, procurement, and site teams.
- Provide accurate production reports, progress updates, and forecasts to management.
- Support site erection teams by prioritizing fabrication based on site requirements.
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Enforce compliance with UAE HSE regulations, company safety policies, and best industry practices.
- Promote a strong safety culture within the fabrication facility.
- Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering / Civil Engineering.
- Additional training or certification in welding technology, fabrication, or production management is an advantage.
Professional Experience
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, preferably within the UAE or GCC.
- Proven experience in fabrication workshops handling large-scale industrial, commercial, or infrastructure steel projects.
Technical & Professional Competencies
- In-depth knowledge of structural steel fabrication processes and shop-floor operations.
- Strong understanding of international standards such as AWS, AISC, BS, EN, ISO.
- Excellent planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and team coordination abilities.
- Proficient in MS Office, production monitoring tools, and ERP systems.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience working in ISO 9001 / ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 certified organizations.
- Familiarity with UAE construction practices and client expectations.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight production deadlines.
