SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: The employee is responsible for providing personal, qualified laboratory assistance to the STEM laboratories. The primary responsibility is to prepare a series of laboratory preparations and the instructor's assistance related to specific content areas of chemistry.
This is a Support Staff union position as stated in the Support Staff collective bargaining agreement.
- Prepare Chemistry and Physical Science lab materials for experiments, per instructor requests.

Supervise student workers in the preparation and storage of material used in experimentation.

Conduct inventory of supplies for Chemistry and Physical Science.

Maintain and repair laboratory instruments and equipment; propose orders for additional maintenance, repair or replacement.

Conduct inventory of equipment and materials on a regular schedule

Maintain cleanliness in all lab rooms and stockrooms in the related areas.

Follow the Right –To- Know law as it applies to the Chemistry and Physical Science.

Prepare and properly label all solutions required in the related laboratory courses.

Responsible for the proper storage of materials, chemicals, equipment in appropriated containers and locations.

Receive and check in purchased materials.

Set up and remove lab experimentation materials and equipment.

Prepare requisitions of miscellaneous materials for the Chemistry and Physical Science labs and related areas.

Maintain an inventory of materials, equipment and chemicals for Chemistry and Physical Science and related areas.

Prepare, send and set up/tear down materials, equipment, and chemicals.

Meet with appropriate faculty and the area Supervisor on a regular basis for communication and coordination.

Coordinate with the College Chemical Hygiene Safety Officer to train full time faculty and adjuncts teaching in the laboratory of the Physical Sciences and related areas according to the Right- To- Know law. Also, any students that are hired to work in the related laboratories of the Physical Sciences.

Other related duties as assigned.
OVERALL PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITY:
The primary and most important overall responsibility of all employees is to provide service in a pleasant, helpful, and effective manner to our students and other members of the College community.
Education Required:
Associate Degree. Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or related area preferred
Experience Required:
One (1) to two (2) years of directly related applicable experience

Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of Earth Science, Chemistry and the related Physical Sciences
INSTITUTIONAL EFFECTIVENESS:
Collaborates with department members and/or the Compliance, Assessment and Research team to support planning, assessment, data collection and reporting for continuous improvement of the college.
