Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated STEM / Math Accessibility Specialist to support inclusive access to mathematical, scientific, and technical content. This specialized role focuses on ensuring that STEM documents, instructional materials, and educational resources are fully accessible, compliant, and usable by individuals with diverse learning needs and assistive technologies.
The role combines technical document remediation with educational accessibility expertise, contributing to accessible curricula, technical documentation, and learning resources aligned with recognized accessibility standards and inclusive education principles.
Key ResponsibilitiesSTEM Document & Technical Accessibility
- Remediate math, science, engineering, and technical documents including textbooks, academic materials, instructional PDFs, and structured reports
- Properly tag and structure:
- Mathematical equations, formulas, and expressions
- Scientific symbols, variables, superscripts, subscripts, and fractions
- Complex tables, charts, graphs, and data visualizations
- Ensure compliance with accessible math standards using:
- MathML
- MathType
- Other screen reader–compatible equation formats
- Validate accurate reading and navigation of math content using assistive technologies
- Perform QA on complex STEM documents to confirm usability with screen readers and accessibility tools
Accessible Curriculum & Instructional Support
- Design and adapt accessible STEM instructional materials using Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles
- Enhance existing lesson plans and learning resources to improve accessibility for students with disabilities or learning differences
- Collaborate with educators, accessibility specialists, and researchers to support inclusive instructional strategies
- Utilize educational technology tools to create interactive, accessible digital lessons and assessments
- Provide guidance or training to educators on best practices for accessible math and science instruction
- Contribute to research and continuous improvement efforts related to accessibility in STEM education
Required Skills & ExpertiseSTEM & Accessibility Tools
- MathType, MathML, MathPlayer, Desmos
- Experience remediating technical PDFs, textbooks, and academic materials
- Strong understanding of screen reader behavior for math and scientific content
STEM Knowledge
- Mathematics: algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, discrete math, differential equations, and proof-based reasoning
- Science disciplines including biology, chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, and related laboratory concepts
- Ability to interpret and structure complex scientific and mathematical information for accessibility
Educational & Communication Skills
- Experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or higher education teaching
- Familiarity with learning technologies and digital education platforms
- Strong communication skills for collaborating with educators and supporting inclusive learning environments
- Background in special education practices, lesson planning, and classroom accessibility is a strong plus
Experience
- Proven experience in STEM accessibility, technical document remediation, or accessible instructional design
- Prior work with academic, educational, or compliance-driven content preferred
- Experience handling complex formulas, data-heavy documents, and technical educational materials
- Familiarity with accessibility QA, validation, and assistive technology testing
How This Role Fits
This is a specialized optional role intended for candidates working on Category 2 STEM materials, which require advanced expertise beyond standard document remediation. The position directly supports inclusive education, regulatory compliance, and equitable access to STEM knowledge.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: AED100.00 - AED150.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 50 per week
