Sterilization and Materials Management Technician

We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Central Sterilization and Materials Management Technician to join our Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) team. This role is critical to ensuring the safe and efficient processing of surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment — particularly in support of pain management and gastroenterology (GI) procedures. This role is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of surgical instruments and medical supplies, as well as inventory management and supply chain functions to ensure surgical services are delivered efficiently and safely.

The ideal candidate will have previous sterile processing and supply chain experience in an ASC or hospital setting, with knowledge of instrumentation used in GI and pain procedures strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities:

Central Sterilization Duties:

  • Decontaminate, clean, assemble, wrap, and sterilize surgical instruments and trays following industry standards and regulatory guidelines.
  • Operate and maintain autoclaves, ultrasonic washers, and other sterilization equipment.
  • Monitor and document sterilization cycles, biological indicators, and quality control checks.
  • Ensure timely turnover of surgical sets and instruments to support scheduled cases.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sterile processing area.

Materials Management Duties:

  • Receive, inspect, and stock medical supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records using manual logs or inventory management software.
  • Distribute surgical case carts, supplies, and implants to appropriate departments.
  • Conduct regular inventory counts and assist in managing PAR levels.
  • Communicate with vendors and coordinate product orders and returns as needed.
  • Track usage trends and support cost-containment initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Certification in Sterile Processing (e.g., CRCST from IAHCSMM or CBSPD) preferred or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience in sterile processing or materials management in a healthcare setting (ASC, hospital, etc.) preferred.
  • Familiarity with infection control and regulatory standards (AAMI, AORN, OSHA, CDC).
  • Pain Management and Gastro
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience using surgical tracking or inventory management software.
  • Knowledge of surgical instruments and medical supplies.
  • Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:

  • Fast-paced outpatient surgical environment.
  • Requires handling of biohazardous materials using proper PPE.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.00 - $28.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
