We are currently seeking a talented individual to become a Stormwater Technician. An individual could be successful if they possess the following.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Stormwater Technician is responsible for overseeing the inspection, maintenance, and compliance of stormwater drainage systems and environmental operations across Oaklawn Jockey Club’s property, including the casino, resort, horse racing track, barns, and related facilities to include the Ten Mile property. This position ensures environmental compliance with all applicable environmental regulations, maintains stormwater infrastructure, and supports the facility’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Always presents a friendly and professional image at the Hotel/Casino/Resort. The following and other duties may be assigned as necessary:
Stormwater & Drainage Management
  • Conduct regular documented inspections of stormwater drains, inlets, culverts, and retention areas.
  • Maintain and clean storm drain covers, sediment filters, and erosion control devices. Replace and reorder control devices as necessary to ensure compliance.
  • Implement sediment control measures around the track, barns, and construction areas. Recruit assistance as needed for larger scale operations as needed.
  • Respond to and resolve stormwater drainage issues, especially after heavy rains or large events.
  • Maintain inspection and maintenance records in compliance with any active permit requirements.
  • Develop and maintain best management practices for the property.
Environmental Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure compliance with EPA, state, and local environmental regulations, including SWPPP and SPCC requirements.
  • Prepare and maintain environmental inspection logs, maintenance reports, and compliance documentation. Report findings and inspection reports to the facility director on a routine basis.
  • Serve as the primary contact for environmental inspections and audits by regulatory agencies.
Barns & Track Area Oversight
  • Monitor drainage and runoff in barn and track areas to prevent contamination of stormwater systems.
  • Coordinate with necessary Oaklawn teams to manage water flow and sediment disposal when needed. May be requested to reach out to and coordinate with third party vendors/contractors for assistance at times.
  • Oversee cleaning schedules for wash racks, barn drains, and storage areas.
Grounds & Facility Maintenance Support
  • Inspect erosion control measures, riprap, vegetative buffers, and slopes for stability and effectiveness. Order material as needed and coordinate with onsite team and possibly third party vendors/contractors to correct issues as needed.
  • Coordinate repairs and upkeep of stormwater-related infrastructure.
Emergency Response & Prevention
  • Mitigate and respond to spills and environmental emergencies, ensuring safe and compliant cleanup.
  • Maintain spill kits in strategic locations and ensure staff are trained in their use.
Staff Training & Oversight
  • Provide training to maintenance, grounds, and barn staff on environmental best management practices and policies of the Oaklawn Racing Casino Resort.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Working knowledge of EPA, state, and local environmental regulations, particularly related to stormwater management and open to additional training on relative job requirements.
  • Organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and reports necessary.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and navigate large property areas.
  • Ability to perform strenuous work tasks at times, operate various pieces of powered industrial equipment.
  • Effective communication, teamwork, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy environment
  • Excellent verbal skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive demeanor with guests and team members
  • Ability to adhere to OJC attendance standards
  • Ability to use a hand-held radio for communications
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has supervisory responsibilities.
  • Manages work procedures and expedites workflow.
  • Provides coaching and counseling to team members.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents in English, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to read and communicate verbally in English. Written communication skills in in English may also be required.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
  • Employee must be able to qualify for licenses and permits required by federal, state and local regulations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have acceptable driving history as determined by Oaklawn Jockey Club.
