Strategic Business Unit Head - Oil & gas

GCN a global executive search and recruiting company is looking for a candidate to fill Strategic Business Unit Head - Oil & gas position. Our client is well established multi-national gas company offering international services in 10 countries worldwide.

Role Description

The SBU Head - Oil & Gas is accountable for leading and scaling the client business across assigned markets, with full ownership of strategy, performance, and profitability. The role drives sustainable and profitable growth by strengthening market position across upstream, midstream, and downstream segments, expanding the customer base, and ensuring reliable and cost-effective supply of industrial and specialty gases to the sector. With full P&L responsibility, the role leads cross functional teams to deliver commercial growth, operational excellence, and strategic partnerships, while executing the long term business strategy across GCC and MENA.

This position is covering both Saudi Arabia & Kuwait, and the candidate is flexible to residence in each country.

Key Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Define and execute the Oil & Gas business strategy aligned with the client's overall objectives.
  • Identify growth opportunities across upstream, midstream, downstream, and energy transition segments (e.g., hydrogen, CCS).
  • Lead annual operating plans, budgeting, and long term strategic planning.
  • Drive cross functional alignment across commercial, operations, engineering, and supply chain.
  • Define commercial strategy, pricing frameworks, and value propositions tailored to Oil & Gas clients.
  • Expand market share across national oil companies (NOCs), IOCs, EPC contractors, and service companies.
  • Lead major tenders, long term supply agreements, and project based contracts.
  • Build and maintain executive level relationships with key stakeholders across the Oil & Gas value chain.
  • Own and deliver revenue, profitability, and cost performance for the Oil & Gas SBU.
  • Drive margin improvement through pricing discipline, contract optimization, and portfolio management.
  • Monitor financial performance, forecasts, and KPIs; implement corrective actions where required.
  • Optimize utilization of assets including bulk installations, pipelines, cylinders, and onsite plants.
  • Ensure reliable and uninterrupted supply of gases to critical Oil & Gas operations.
  • Oversee operational performance across production facilities, onsite installations, and logistics networks.
  • Strengthen sourcing strategies and supplier partnerships to ensure long term supply security.
  • Drive efficiency, cost optimization, and service reliability across the value chain.
  • Support large scale project execution including EPC driven gas supply schemes and onsite solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on design, commissioning, and optimization of gas systems.
  • Ensure technical alignment with client specifications and industry standards.
  • Build and lead a high performing, multi-country team across commercial and operational functions.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Act as executive sponsor for key strategic customers and partners.
  • Ensure compliance with Oil & Gas industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion a strong HSSE culture across all operations and customer sites.
  • Oversee audits, certifications, and risk management processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, business or related field.
  • 12-15 years in Oil & Gas and/or industrial gases.
  • Strong experience managing large-scale commercial portfolios.
  • Proven track record with NOCs, EPCs, and large contracts.
  • Experience across GCC/MENA markets preferred.
  • Proven track record in business development and leading multi-country portfolios.
  • Strong Commercial and P&L management experience.
  • Strong communication, leadership and interpersonal skills in English language required.
