The Public Works Department plays a key role in maintaining and improving the City’s infrastructure to enhance the quality of life for residents, businesses, and visitors. The department oversees streets, traffic systems, landscaping, lighting, water, sewer, and storm drains, as well as City-owned facilities and vehicle fleets. Public Works also provides engineering, environmental compliance, and inspection services, manages capital improvement projects and recycling programs, and administers the City’s solid waste franchise. What You’ll Do
As our new Streets Supervisor, you will:
- 
Plan and manage the work of staff supporting Public Works right-of-way infrastructure.
- 
Oversee the repair and maintenance of curbs, gutters, sidewalks, other concrete structures, street signs, and striping, as well as the trimming and maintenance of street trees, medians, and parkways.
- 
Schedule and supervise the work of contracted crews and City staff crews engaged in various maintenance and repair activities and special events.
- 
Evaluate service needs, equipment, and work methods; assist in developing comprehensive plans to satisfy future needs of department services; and establish and enforce operating and safety procedures.
What We’re Looking For
We’re looking for someone who:
- 
Has the ability to supervise staff, including work planning, assignment, review, evaluation, and training.
- 
Has knowledge of principles, practices, methods, and techniques of public works right-of-way maintenance and repair, and City and mandated safety rules and regulations.
- 
Is excited by challenges, loves to learn, and thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- 
Education: Equivalent to completion of twelfth (12th) grade.
- 
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in public works maintenance and repair work, including lead or supervisory experience.
- 
Licenses and Certifications:- 
Possession of a valid California Class “A” Driver’s License, to be maintained throughout employment.
- 
Possession of, or successful acquisition within eighteen (18) months of employment, a Qualified Applicators Certificate (QAC) with Category C Certification.
- 
Possession of, or successful acquisition within twelve (12) months of employment, a California Water Environmental Association (CWEA) Collections Maintenance Grade 2 Certification.
 
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
- 
Mobility to work in the field; strength and stamina to perform medium to heavy physical work.
- 
Operate a motor vehicle and visit various community sites.
- 
Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
- 
Hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone.
- 
The ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects of 50 pounds or heavier weights, in all cases with the use of proper equipment and/or assistance from other staff.
