The Bright Works is a Nashville-based steel contractor specializing in commercial structural steel and miscellaneous metals installation. Our projects include structural steel erection, stairs, handrails, platforms, and custom systems. We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Field Welder / Connector who can safely and efficiently install structural steel and miscellaneous metals while working as part of a field crew on multiple construction projects.

Position Summary

The Structural Steel Field Welder / Connector is responsible for installing structural steel and miscellaneous metals on commercial construction sites. Candidates should have experience connecting steel structures, setting columns and beams, installing stairs and handrails, SMAW welding, and working safely at heights.

This position requires a hands-on individual who can read drawings, work independently, and contribute to maintaining production schedules while delivering quality workmanship.

Responsibilities

• Install and connect structural steel including columns, beams, and joists
• Install stairs, handrails, guardrails, and platforms
• Read and interpret structural drawings, shop drawings, erection plans, and field layouts
• Perform SMAW welding in accordance with project specifications and company standards
• Install and tension structural bolts as required by project specifications
• Assist with rigging, signaling, unloading, and material placement during crane operations
• Verify dimensions, elevations, and alignment before final connection
• Operate aerial lifts, forklifts, and other jobsite equipment safely
• Use cutting and fitting tools including torches, grinders, and magnetic drills
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
• Follow company safety procedures and OSHA requirements at all times
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, contractors, and crew members

Qualifications & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of structural steel erection or ironworking experience
• Proven experience connecting columns, beams, and structural steel framing members
• Experience installing stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous metals
• Strong SMAW welding skills
• Ability to read and interpret structural steel shop drawings and erection plans
• Knowledge of rigging practices and safe material handling procedures
• Ability to work at heights and in varying outdoor conditions
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS welding certifications
• OSHA 10 certification
• Experience operating telehandlers, boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts
• Experience with structural bolting and steel erection sequencing
• Experience working on commercial construction projects

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 75+ pounds regularly
• Ability to climb ladders and work from aerial lifts
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding environments
• Comfortable working at heights and outdoors in various weather conditions
