The payroll student assistant will be responsible for supporting the payroll staff by performing data entry, answering customer requests via email and/or phone, and assisting with the front desk responsibilities. Candidate must be available to work 8-12 hours per week during business hours.
Strong preference will be given to candidates that live locally and can work year round which includes summer break. Qualified candidates will be proficient in office skills such as data entry, filing, and computer literacy that includes Microsoft Office products. Candidates should be highly organized and possess the ability to prioritize time and responsibilities. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary to perform the duties listed below.
Process faculty teaching contracts to ensure timely payroll processing
Respond to external verification of employment requests
Perform work-study data entry and oversee work-study funds
Process position termination emails received from the Employment office
Answer customer questions or concerns that relate to the payroll process
Perform payroll front desk duties
Payroll document management system
Monitor checks that are nearing the expiration date and notify the employee
Shred confidential documents and assist in keeping the payroll office clean

Experience
This position requires proficiency in customer service, clerical, and computer skills. Proficiency in these areas are generally attained through 6 months of experience working in an office or school environment. Candidates should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including Microsoft Word and Excel platforms. Preference will be given to candidates with accounting experience attained through school or work experience.
Language Skills
Candidate should be capable of communicating fluently in English and possess the ability to write reports and other business correspondence. Candidate will need to effectively present information and respond to inquiries presented by groups such as employers, students, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Candidate needs the ability to accurately add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Basic accounting knowledge is preferred, but not required.

This position primarily entails sitting at a desk to perform the duties described above. However, it will also require infrequent standing and light lifting.
