Subcontractor Welder/Fabricator

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Subcontractor Welder/Fabricator to join our team on a contractual basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing high-quality welding and fabrication tasks, primarily involving stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, sheet metal and mechanical components. This role offers an excellent opportunity for experienced welders with a strong background in TIG and MIG welding and fabrication processes to contribute to diverse projects requiring precision and technical expertise.

Duties

  • Fabrication and welding of stainless steel, mild steel and Aluminium components in the workshop and on-site
  • TIG and MIG welding, metal preparation, assembly, grinding/finishing, basic fitting, reading drawings
  • Occasional site visits around Peterborough and surrounding areas
  • Fabricate, assemble, and modify metal parts according to technical drawings and specifications.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and specialised equipment to cut, shape, and join metal components accurately.
  • Conduct quality checks on completed welds and assemblies to meet safety standards and client specifications.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to health and safety regulations.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in TIG/MIG welding, with a strong understanding of welding standards.
  • Own basic tools, PPE and transport preferred
  • CSCS or site access card desirable (or willingness to obtain)
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment for fabrication tasks.
  • Solid knowledge of fabrication techniques involving sheet metal and mechanical assembly.
  • Mechanical knowledge with the ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Basic maths skills for measurements, calculations, and quality assessments.
  • Experience working with assembly processes in a manufacturing or construction setting is desirable.
  • Good communication, punctuality and ability to work independently as a subcontractor while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. Job Type: Freelance

Pay: £17.00-£20.00 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
