Substation Primary Design Engineer (HV/AIS/GIS)

About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Substation Primary Design Engineer to support the engineering and delivery of high-voltage substation projects for utility-scale Solar PV and Power Transmission EPC projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for primary electrical design from tender stage through detailed engineering and construction support.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare primary engineering designs for AIS/GIS substations (33kV–400kV).
- Develop Single Line Diagrams (SLD), General Arrangement (GA), equipment layouts, busbar layouts, grounding layouts, and cable routing drawings.
- Perform equipment sizing and selection, including transformers, circuit breakers, disconnectors, CTs, VTs/CVTs, surge arresters, busbars, and insulators.
- Prepare engineering calculations for electrical clearances, busbar sizing, earthing systems, conductor selection, and short-circuit requirements.
- Review client specifications, utility standards, tender documents, and technical requirements.
- Coordinate with Civil, Structural, Secondary Design, Protection & Control, Procurement, and Construction teams.
- Review vendor drawings, technical submittals, and equipment datasheets.
- Prepare BOQ, Material Take-Off (MTO), and technical documentation.
- Support project execution, design clarification, and site engineering during construction and commissioning.
- Ensure all engineering deliverables comply with IEC standards, utility requirements, and project specifications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in HV/EHV Substation Primary Design.
- Experience in Solar PV, Power Transmission, Distribution, or EPC projects.
- Strong knowledge of AIS and GIS substations.
- Good understanding of IEC standards and utility requirements.
- Proficient in AutoCAD.
- Experience with Bentley Substation, Primtech, ETAP, CDEGS, or similar software is an advantage.
- Strong coordination and communication skills.
- GCC or international EPC project experience is preferred.
