Substitute Preschool Teacher

The National Child Research Center (NCRC) seeks a loving and collaborative substitute teacher to work with 2-5 year olds, for the 2025 - 2026 school year. Substitute teachers are scheduled as absences arise, and may also be invited to cover sustained absences. If you are a retired teacher or aspiring teacher willing to work a part-time, flexible schedule, we want to meet you! Occasionally we have openings for assistant teachers, and look first to our substitute teachers for those roles.

Qualifications

  • Substitute teachers are required to have an AA or a CDA
  • A demonstrated commitment to inclusive education
  • Required: some experience working with young children and/or children with special needs, ideally in an emergent, play-based program
  • A positive outlook, willingness to collaborate, and commitment to learning

About National Child Research Center (NCRC Preschool)

Founded in 1928, NCRC is the oldest continuously operating preschool in the District of Columbia. NCRC provides a collaborative approach to preschool education in an environment that nurtures the whole child, fosters partnerships with families, and is committed to the inclusion of children with special needs. Located in the historic district of Cleveland Park, Washington DC, NCRC is home to a collaborative, committed, and dynamic professional learning community. We utilize an emergent, play-based curriculum and include children who have special needs or benefit from additional support. Our faculty includes a speech pathologist, counselor, occupational therapist, and pedagogista who participate in all aspects of the program. The NCRC faculty, with the support of our director of diversity, equity, and community, works thoughtfully and intentionally towards equity; we seek and celebrate the diversity within and beyond our school.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $24.00 per hour

Expected hours: 4 – 30 per week
