Position​: Student Engagement Specialist

Reports To: Curriculum Director

Location: Across Campuses

Daily Rate: Part-Time, 29 hours per week, $30/hour

Overview

The Met High School seeks to hire an energetic and flexible individual to support the Met in serving as a Student Engagement Specialist, which includes acting as a substitute advisor and providing general coverage on internship days. The Met is a network of six small, public high schools located in Providence and Newport, Rhode Island. With high standards and strong family engagement, the Met’s individualized learning approach has proven successful in unlocking students’ passion for learning. The Met empowers its students to take charge of their learning, to become responsible citizens and life-long learners. The hallmarks of a Met education include internships, individual learning plans, advisory, and a breakthrough college transition program.

Role

The Student Engagement Specialist serves as a versatile educator, combining the roles of substitute teacher and coverage provider. This position is crucial in maintaining a consistent, supportive learning environment for students across various educational settings.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Learning Environment
  • Create an atmosphere conducive to students' intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages student involvement and achievement of learning objectives
  • Maintain a personalized, rigorous, and socially engaging advisory environment
  • Supervision and Safety
  • Supervise students in various school-related settings, including coverage sessions
  • Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities
  • Establish and maintain safety standards for student behavior
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students and school resources
  • Instructional Duties
  • Instruct students individually and in groups using various teaching methods
  • Adapt and scaffold teaching methods and materials to meet diverse student needs and interests
  • Support and nurture students' academic, social-emotional, and physical needs
  • Professional Conduct
  • Serve as an advisor, mentor, and model of appropriate habits and behaviors
  • Communicate and interact effectively with students and staff
  • Complete new hire compliance training before starting employment

Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the curriculum director, with work reviewed for conformance to established policies, rules, regulations, and procedures.

This role requires adaptability to collaborative planning and facilitation and use of Met materials.
