Job DescriptionABOUT THE EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM (EOP):
The State University of New York's Educational Opportunity Program provides access, academic support and financial aid to students who show promise for succeeding in college but who may not have otherwise been offered admission. Available primarily to full-time, matriculated students, the program supports students throughout their college careers within the University.
GENERAL FUNCTIONS:
The EOP Student Advocate is responsible for the daily support and monitoring of EOP students during their initial weeks on campus. This position will provide assistance to EOP students with on campus navigation as well as daily independent skills and decision making. This work is performed under the direction of the EOP Director and collaborates with EOP and College Village staff. It requires the ability to be sensitive to participants' needs and to provide appropriate direction.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide leadership and guidance to EOP students.
Assist EOP students with navigation between residences and on campus locations.
Ensure EOP students wake up daily and are ready and prepared to attend classes.
Support EOP students in on campus navigation to ensure they effectively arrive to classes in a prepared and timely manner.
Guide EOP students between on campus locations and morning, afternoon and evening meal locations and times.
Provide constructive, positive and appropriate evening activities for EOP students.
Document and submit attendance records for the duration of the program.
Help EOP students regarding any and all EOP/Campus related questions.
Assist EOP support staff.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
QUALIFICATIONS:Education
Associate's degree required.
Experience
A minimum of one (1) year work experience required. Experience working with peer or youth relations highly desired
Knowledge Skills & Abilities
The ability to relate effectively with college bound youth is required. The successful candidate must have the ability to communicate effectively and work independently. Sound and appropriate decision making is required. Knowledge of middle/high school level student behavior is important to this role. Preference given to individuals having backgrounds similar to the target population, experience working for an EOP program, and/or are an EOP alum. Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity is essential. The successful candidate will be mindful of and develop accessibility solutions that can accommodate all individuals to use GCC facilities without barriers, both digitally and physically.

SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
This is a temporary, full-time position for the EOP 3 week summer program in August and is compensated at a rate of $18.29/hr. Incumbent will be required to reside on campus during this assignment. This position will share in the overnight supervision of students. This position is in-person with no remote work options.
