Summer Accounting and Finance Intern

Job Overview
The Long Beach Public Library Foundation is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting & Finance Intern to support our finance team during the summer. We are a mission-driven nonprofit organization that raises funds and advocates for 12 public libraries throughout Long Beach, promotes literacy, and champions the freedom to read.

This hybrid position works closely with the Foundation's Treasurer and Senior Accountant on financial reporting, process improvement, and operational projects. The intern will gain hands-on exposure to nonprofit financial management, budgeting, forecasting, and operational process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing cash flow reports, financial projections, and other financial analyses
• Help develop and document Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for accounting and finance processes
• Support budgeting, reconciliations, and board reporting activities
• Organize and maintain financial records and spreadsheets
• Gain exposure to nonprofit accounting and budgeting processes
• Work with financial systems and tools, including QuickBooks, Blackbaud, and Excel
• Collaborate with finance leadership on special projects and process improvements

Qualifications

• Current college student (Master's or Senior in Undergraduate) or recent graduate in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial terminology
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
• Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
• Preferred experience in QuickBooks (or similar bookkeeping), AI software….
• Preferred interest in nonprofit finance and mission-driven work
• Ability to handle confidential information professionally
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

This internship offers meaningful hands-on experience in nonprofit finance and accounting while contributing to an organization dedicated to literacy, equitable access to information, and strong public libraries in the Long Beach community.

Pay: $17.00 - $25.00 per hour
