Summer Camp Global News & Media Literacy Instructor

Job Summary
Join our dynamic summer camp team as a Global News & Media Literacy Instructor, where you will inspire young minds to become informed, critical thinkers in today’s fast-paced media landscape. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to lead engaging lessons that foster media literacy skills, promote responsible news consumption, and encourage global awareness. As a key educator, you will empower campers to analyze news sources critically and develop their own media projects, all while creating a fun, inclusive learning environment.

Duties

  • Design and deliver interactive lessons on global news topics and media literacy concepts tailored to diverse age groups
  • Facilitate discussions that encourage critical thinking about news sources, bias, and information verification
  • Guide campers in creating their own media content such as news reports, interviews, or digital stories
  • Incorporate current events and multimedia tools to make lessons engaging and relevant
  • Support campers in developing skills for responsible social media use and digital citizenship
  • Collaborate with camp staff to ensure a safe, inclusive, and energetic learning atmosphere
  • Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback to foster growth in media literacy skills
  • Understanding of global current events and ability to guide students in understanding media bias and responsible digital citizenship is required.

Experience

  • University experience or ongoing studies in journalism, communications, media studies, education or related fields preferred
  • Experience engaging middle and high school students (ages 11–15) in lively, project-based learning.”
  • Passion for teaching youth and fostering critical thinking about media and current events
  • The role includes mentoring campers to design and create their own news reports or media literacy projects, fostering confidence and creative expression.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage diverse learners in lively discussions
  • Experience working with children or teenagers in educational or camp settings is advantageous
  • Ability to adapt lesson plans for different age groups and skill levels
  • Enthusiasm for promoting global awareness and responsible media consumption among youth

Pay: $40.00 - $60.00 per hour
