Summer Camp Staff (Seasonal, Part-Time)

JOB The following duties and responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s), and physical requirements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. SUMMARY:
Under the general direction of the Director, Community Programs and the Dean, Workforce and Continuing Education the incumbent will interact with camp participants, parents, faculty, and staff to ensure a safe, engaging, and enriching experience for campers while fostering a positive learning environment. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES MINIMUM EDUCATIONAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS):
High school diploma or equivalent required.

Exceptional candidates who are current high school juniors or seniors may be considered with relevant work or volunteer experience working with youth and a demonstrated ability to model professionalism and responsibility.

PREFERRED:
Current CPR and First Aid certification
Prior experience working with children (e.g., babysitting, tutoring, coaching, mentoring) and knowledge of their changing needs.

CERTIFICATION OR LICENSES:
Valid Texas Driver License or the ability to obtain one SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

KNOWLEDGE:
  • Prior experience working with children (e.g. babysitting, tutoring, coaching, mentoring) and knowledge of their changing needs.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and methods including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

SKILLS:
  • Strong interpersonal, relationship building and conflict resolution skills
  • Time management skills and the ability to prioritize workload.
  • Data entry skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent customer service.
  • Organizational and planning skills.

ABILITIES:
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and engage campers in a positive and inclusive manner.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing work environment and adapt to different situations quickly.
  • Ability to commit to the full duration of the camp season.
  • Ability to participate in camp staff orientation and debriefing sessions.
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact with students, parents, faculty, staff, and customers of the college.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with both children and adults.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work as a team and individually, displaying strong personal accountability.
  • Ability to work autonomously, proactively anticipate, and solve problems, with minimal supervision and oversight.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Ability to pass a background check.


PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Light physical activity that may include lifting, pushing, pulling of objects up to 25 pounds.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be able to work both indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions.

WORK SCHEDULE:
This is a seasonal (summer) position. Hours will vary based upon camp offerings. Must have day time, and weekday availability. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
This is an on-site position. Essential duties of the role must be performed in-person.

Schedule to be determined by Director, Community Programs and Dean, Workforce and Continuing Education.

HOURS REQUIRED PER WEEK:
Up to 40 per week, but will vary based upon camp offerings.
