TASK FORCE: Correction and Criminal Justice

UNIT: Criminal Justice

JOB TITLE: One (1) Summer Intern

CONTROL CODE: AOJ Intern-26-01

SUMMARY:

The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.

The Criminal Justice Unit handles both expense and capital for criminal justice-related agencies in NYC. It includes expense oversight of the District Attorney's Offices, Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice, Public Administrators, and the public defenders while capital projects include renovation and construction of all courthouses.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The intern could be working on several projects for the unit. The Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice has over $800M in human services contracts and the unit would like to create a dashboard of spending by contract that can be updated regularly. The CJ Unit will also be undertaking a heavier monitoring process of the 18-B/Assigned Counsel Program to monitor state revenue claiming and spending. Projects would overall allow the intern to understand how court and the criminal justice operations operate and what that means for the City budget.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Excel formulas and strong communication skills

REQUIREMENTS:

A cover letter is required to be considered for this position. Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.

Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. Strong analytical, research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel

To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program, undergraduate students must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university.

Compensation/Duration:

Summer Undergraduate Intern $17.50 per hour

Internships will run for 10 weeks, from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026. The work must be done during the regular workday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – no evenings or weekends.

This is a hybrid position with in-person days located at OMB’s offices at 255 Greenwich Street

Minimum Qualifications


As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.

Residency Requirement


New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
