Shift: 7:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. Monday through Friday FLSA Status: Exempt

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Lead Supervisor and/or Service Commissioner, the Seasonal Summer

General Laborer performs general labor in the provision of public services throughout the various departments as needed on a day-to-day basis. The position operates and utilizes various hand and power tools including, but not limited to, landscape equipment*, garden and yard tools, paint tools, cleaning equipment, trucks, and refuse scooters.* The work is performed in a variety of settings involving occasional exposure to inclement weather, confined spaces, excessive temperatures and humidity, dust, dirt and fumes.

*Can be acquired after hire

Duties:

1. Parks Department

Operates and maintains various tools and equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks, mowers, trimmers, and other landscaping tools
Performs various grounds maintenance and landscaping duties including, but not limited to: o Plants and cuts grass o Plants, prunes, and removes flowers and other ornamental plants o Weeds ornamental flower beds o Installs mulch in landscaping beds o Digs holes o Transports various landscaping materials including trees, soils, plants, and equipment o Collects refuse from beaches parks, and City properties
Locks and unlocks various City park and public properties and facilities
Assists with tree removals
Performs light duty maintenance and repairs as required
Help implement safety procedures and proper signage

2. Refuse Department

Operates and maintains equipment including, but not limited to, dump trucks and refuse scooters
Collects and disposes of refuse from City residences, businesses, public properties, and facilities
Ability to follow all safety requirements

3. Streets Department

Operates and maintains equipment including, but not limited to, various hand and power tools, trucks
Performs various tasks involved with street and sidewalk repair o Assists in repairing holes in streets and sidewalks o Assists in traffic controls as needed
Performs various tasks involved in street maintenance o Cleans and maintains street cleaning equipment o Cleans sweeps , and removes debris from streets, curbs, walkways, and catch basins

4. Traffic Department

Operates and maintains various tools and equipment including, but not limited to trucks and painting equipment
Assists in traffic control operations
Assists in line striping
Assists in sign and signal maintenance and operation

Minimum Qualifications:

Requires related experience preferred.
Must be able to lift up to 50 (fifty) pounds.
Punctuality is necessary.
Must have an ability to work with the public as needed, as well as the ability to multitask work.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Must be a minimum of 18 years old to operate some equipment/city vehicles.
