The Superintendent of Waste Disposal is responsible for oversight/operation of all aspects of the Public Works Solid Waste Division including landfill, transfer station, reclamation, education, gas to energy, sludge disposal and recycling operations.
Duties:
Lead and manage all Solid Waste Division personnel and daily operations.
- Oversee landfill, transfer station, recycling, reclamation, sludge disposal, and gas-to-energy operations.
- Ensure full compliance with all local, state, and federal environmental regulations and permits.
- Supervise staff hiring, training, scheduling, and performance management.
- Respond to public complaints and resolve operational or personnel issues.
- Develop and manage the annual Solid Waste budget.
- Coordinate and inspect contractor work and operational projects.
- Maintain 24/7 emergency on-call availability for division operations.
- Operate or oversee heavy equipment and field operations as needed.
- Administer solid waste, recycling, and public education programs.
Qualifications
- High school diploma.
- Solid Waste Manager Certification.
- Considerable training in sanitary landfill maintenance, methane gas collection, recycling, drainage, safety and construction and related personnel and equipment resource management.
- Working knowledge of principles and practices of civil engineering.
- Ability to supervise a large, diverse workforce.
- Competency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver’s license. Class B with valid DOT physical card preferred.
- Willingness to be on call 24/7 for emergencies.
- Ability to pass drug screening and background check.

Pay: $68,102.00 - $84,173.00 per year
