Job Title: Staff Nurse – NICU
Job Summary:
The Staff Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized nursing care to critically ill or premature newborns. The role involves monitoring neonatal patients, assisting in procedures, administering medications, supporting parents, and ensuring adherence to NICU protocols and standards of care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, monitor, and document neonatal vital signs and clinical status.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and prescribed therapies safely.
- Assist neonatologists and healthcare team during procedures such as intubation, catheterization, and resuscitation.
- Operate and monitor NICU equipment, including incubators, ventilators, infusion pumps, and monitors.
- Provide emergency care, including neonatal resuscitation and life support.
- Maintain strict infection control and hygiene protocols in the NICU.
- Educate and counsel parents on newborn care, feeding, and follow-up procedures.
- Maintain accurate patient records, procedure logs, and documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, care planning, and quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid nursing license.
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing preferred).
- Experience in NICU, neonatal care, or critical care preferred.
- Certification in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) preferred.
- Knowledge of neonatal care protocols, life support, and monitoring.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to handle newborns safely and assist in procedures.
- Comfortable working in a high-stress, fast-paced NICU environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in ventilator management, incubator care, and neonatal monitoring.
- Strong teamwork, communication, and parent counseling skills.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergencies.
